The first animal that can survive a space vacuum

'Water bears' are first animal to survive space vacuum
The above is an article on 'water bears', or tardigrades.
On the left is a short introduction on tardigrades, taken from Animal Planet.

Tardigrades have shown to be really tough animals, and it is a breakthrough worth mentioning. These creatures are perfect for testing out conditions of newly discovered planets and other experimental probes of new environments. Tardigrades are virtually immortal, almost not being able to die extreme conditions. There has been speculation that tardigrades could have actually originated from Outer Space, and therefore, being able to survive in it. I would not be surprised if that is so, as it is simply ridiculous that an animal can withstand that amount of pressure. Earth's climate will most likely not be able to produce an organism of this sort, as the pressure on Earth has never been high. The characteristics of organisms usually suit the environment they live in, and so I personally believe the theory that tardigrades are from space. These animals are really amazing, and I think they can play a huge role in experimental research in time to come.
